Tender Description
Major flooding has occurred regularly along the Gascoyne River in recent decades - with flooding occurring in 1960, 1961, 1974, 1980, 1989, 1995, 1999, 2000, 2006 – and most recently in December 2010/January 2011.
The December 2010 flood was the highest in recorded history and caused extensive damage throughout the Region. This was however, not the first time Gascoyne residents have been effected by flooding. The Gascoyne has had its fair share of natural disasters over the years with droughts, fires, cyclones and floods.
Historical accounts of previous floods are limited and the scale of the devastation and the effects floods have on the community and residents is hard to comprehend by those not directly involved. Capturing the stories associated with these events helps others to understand the hardships that can be endured and reinforces the fighting spirit of the residents in the Gascoyne Region.
