This tender is for the supply, installation and commissioning of a 36ha, half circle pivot irrigator and ancillary equipment (refer to Drawing 001).

The reuse site currently consists of a mix of pastures and plantation trees that are irrigated by a flood irrigation system. In the interest of improved irrigation efficiency and long term sustainability, CSC have elected to harvest the trees, and move to the spray irrigation of crops and pastures as the primary enterprise on the site. The harvesting of the trees and the preparation of the paddocks for spray irrigated crops and pastures will be conducted by others, and does not form part of this tender.

Corowa Shire Council (CSC) treats the effluent from the Corowa township at the Sewage Treatment Works (STW) located to the west of the town. The STW processes an average of 450 megalitre/year (ML/yr), producing low strength effluent suited to be reused for agricultural irrigation.

Once treated the effluent is stored in a 625ML storage pond at the site before being pumped to the reuse irrigation site located between the storage pond and the Corowa airport. Monitoring of the actual volume irrigated over the last decade indicates that an average of only some 200ML/year is available for irrigation (ie after evaporation losses etc).
