The Department of Education and Communities is establishing an Opportunity Hub in Dubbo as part of the NSW Government plan for Aboriginal Affairs, OCHRE: Opportunity, Choice, Healing, Responsibility, and Empowerment.
Opportunity Hubs aim to provide Aboriginal young people with the confidence and knowledge to follow a supported pathway between secondary school, training and further education, and/or employment.
Opportunity Hubs build partnerships between schools, employers, education and training providers and the local community to coordinate and match employment, training and further education opportunities to students’ aspirations.
The key outcomes to be delivered by Opportunity Hubs for young Aboriginal people are:
* Increased participation and retention at school;
* Higher aspirations and expectations of career pathways;
* Increased post school enrolment in further education and training; and
* Increased placement in sustainable jobs.
This request for tender (RFT) is for a service provider to operate an Opportunity Hub in Dubbo in collaboration with local Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal families and communities, schools, key community, government and local government leaders, post-school education and training providers, business and industry.
The successful service provider will be expected to broker and coordinate services that provide career information and advice and support retention and improved achievement of Aboriginal young people in school. They will also be expected to assist Aboriginal students in negotiating clear pathways that connect with career opportunities, further education and training and sustainable employment.
