The Joint Proof and Experimental Unit (JPEU) Port Wakefield (PW) is the organisation tasked with conducting a range of proof, test and validation activities for the ADF’s large calibre weaponry, including the Army’s 155mm howitzer ammunition. With improvements in capability and technology, in particular the ammunition to be procured under the Future Artillery Ammunition (FAA) project, there is a requirement to conduct more advanced and precise testing.
The suite of instrumentation required includes Portable Ammunition Conditioning Chambers. Currently JPEU PW has three similar systems, but these are not transportable. This restricts their ability to conduct trials to a single location. This procurement will provide conditioning chambers which:
* Are suitable for use with 155mm ammunition;
* Meet the tolerances required by the defined standards; and
* Are transportable to enable operation at multiple test ranges across Australia.
