Tender Description

The works include, but are not limited to, construction of a new bridge, realignment of the existing highway, two new roundabouts, 40 metres of concrete cantilever retaining wall and demolition of the existing bridge and removal of the causeway.

Features of the works include:

* Construction of a new 288 metre 16 span concrete plank bridge on a new alignment to the east consisting of two 3.5m lanes, two 2.5m shoulders and a 3m wide shared path.
* Realignment of the existing highway to the north and south of the bridge to connect the existing local roads to the new highway alignment.
* Two new roundabouts either side of the bridge to connect the existing local roads to the new alignment.
* A new 40m long cantilever retaining wall adjacent to the northern roundabout at Princes Avenue South.
* A network of shared paths to facilitate the safe movement of pedestrians and cyclists
* Removal of the existing causeway and demolition of the existing bridge
* Upgrade the connection of the Princes Highway with Princes Avenue and a cul-de-sac to terminate Princess Ave at its southern extent.
* Construction of a public space on the southern abutment of the existing bridge.

This is a Quality Assurance contract

Tenders are invited from contractors pre-qualified at Roadworks R4 or higher, Bridgeworks B3 or higher, Financial Level F50 or higher.

Asphalt work must be carried out by a contractor who is prequalified with Roads and Maritime Services under the National Prequalification System for Civil (Road and Brdige) Construction Contracts at Asphalt Paving Category A2 or higher.

The Pretensioned precast concrete bridge girders must be manufactured by a contractor who is prequalified with Roads and Maritime Serivices under the National Prequalification System for Civil (Road and Bridges) Construction Contracts at Category C1.

The steel fabrication work must be undertaken by a contractor who is prequalified with Roads and Maritime Serivices under the National Prequalification System for Civil (Road and Bridges) Construction Contracts at Category S or alternatively are registered with the Principal in category SM:Minor Steel Fabrication.

The organisation undertaking the traffic control must be registered with he Principal in Category G: Traffic Control

If earthworks and or drainage components of the work are subcontracted, engage subcontractors who are prequalified for Roadworks or alternatively registered with the Principal in Category E: Earthworks of Category D: Drainage Works respectively.

If the formwork is subcontracted, engage a subcontractor who is prequalified with Roads and Maritime Services under the National Prequalification System for Civil (Road and Bridge) Construction Contracts at Category B1 or higher or alternatively registered with the Principal in Category F: Formwork

The Primary Testing of the work (including sampling) must be carried by testing contractors registered with the Principal in Category L2: Construction Industry Laboratories.

The organisation undertaking the erosion, sedimentation and soil conservation services must be registered with the Principal in Category S: Erosion, sedimentationand Soil conservation Consultancy Services.

The organisation undertaking the earthworks stabilisation (if required) work must be registered with the Principal in Category Z1: Stabilisation or have demonstrated experience in undertaking eartworks stabilisation for Road authories.

Pavement marking in accordance with RMS R141 and RMS R142 must be undertaken by a painting contractor who is accredited under the Painting Contractors Certification Program (PCCP), administered by the CSIRO, to the appropriate clas of category B Pavement markings as follows:

20      Long run longitudinal pavement marking on major roads
22      Audio tactile markings
24      Transverse pavement marking including intersection marking and messages
25      Raised pavement markers
26      High friction surfacings
27      Pavement marking: removal
