Tender Description

2018 Subsidised Seedlings Project

State NRM Office Community Action Grants 2017/18

Project Summary & Background

At least 9 Landholders across the Shires of Quairading, Cunderdin and Tammin will be provided bio-diverse seedlings to revegetate areas to expand or connect existing remnant vegetation. This vegetation will be protected and enhanced through the provision of funding for fencing. The threat of invasive animals will be reduced through these connected landscapes through the control of rabbits, foxes and feral cats.

The undertaking of this project will not only achieve biodiversity connectivity within the fragmented landscape, it will also allow for ongoing support and technical information for participants and the wider community.

All three Shires have received funding previously under two competitive collaborative multi-Shire Projects including the Biodiversity fund Project (2011-2017) and Caring for Our Country (2009-2013) providing landholders with subsidized seedlings, fencing and pest control. Involvement in these projects has created motivation within the farming community to continue their aim to re-vegetate unproductive land and help rehabilitate and enhance existing high-value remnant native vegetation through expansion and connection. As these two projects have been completed we would like to continue to provide this subsidization for landholders to continue the good work and motivation despite multiple less than average growing seasons that put pressure on farm budgets and operations.

In-Kind Requirement
1. Advertising the project Expression of Interest via Shire newsletter, website, social media, etc.
2. Conduct two Site Visits per site (Pre-planting and post-planting) to suitable project sites and undertake photo-point monitoring and completion of surveys and simple data templates as required. Estimated time 3 hours per site, per visit. Site visits are required to assess the applications and select the best sites that meet the conditions of the Project guidelines.
3. Communication with participating landholders where required.
4. Complete one Case Study per site (can be completed at post-planting site visit. Quairading to provide template).
5. Liaison with Shire of Quairading Grants & Projects Officer.
6. Receive and payment of invoices. Keeping of financial records for acquittal.
7. Printing where required.

It is anticipated that the Shires of Cunderdin and Tammin will have at least 6 sites in the program receiving seedlings, fencing and pest control funding.

The Shire of Quairading will undertake a coordinator role and provide all landholder communication templates, site visit templates/surveys and information and conduct all Project reporting and acquittal of the Project. Delivery of the project is, however, dependant on the provision of in-kind administration and project support within the Shires of Cunderdin and Tammin.
