The Eagle Downs Coal Project is located in the Bowen Basin in Central Queensland, adjacent to, and immediately down dip from the BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance operating Peak Downs Coal Mine.
The Project involves construction, development and operation of an underground longwall hard coking coal mine, Coal Handling and Preparation Plant (CHPP) and associated infrastructure. Eagle Downs Coal Management Pty Ltd (EDCM) is delivering the project under a joint venture of Aquila Coal Pty Ltd and South32 Eagle Downs Pty Ltd, the Eagle Downs Coal Joint Venture .
It is estimated that the mine will produce an average of 4.5Mtpa of product coking coal in the first ten years of full production from one underground longwall. The later years will utilise longwall top coal caving. The mine life is expected to be 45 years. The coal from our mine is a low volatile, hard coking coal that is highly sought in global markets.
The Coal Handling and Preparation Plant (CHPP) will have a throughput of 1,100tpa Run of Mine (ROM).
Coal will be transported by conveyor from the mine to a CHPP where it will be crushed, sized and washed before being transported export coal facility.
