Tender Description
The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (the Authority) is an independent statutory body primarily responsible to the Victorian Minister for Education, serving both government and non-government schools.
Part 2.5 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic.) sets out the powers and functions of the Authority.
The Authority provides high quality curriculum, assessment and reporting for all Victorian students in relation to their primary and secondary schooling by developing and implementing:
- The Victorian Early Learning and Development Framework 0–8 (VELDF 0–8),
- Foundation to Year 10 Curriculum (Victorian Curriculum F-10),
- National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy Testing (NAPLAN),
- Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE),
- Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL), and
- Vocational Education and Training (VET).
The Victorian Curriculum F-10 sets out what every student should learn during their first 11 years of schooling.
The Victorian Curriculum F-10: English aims to ensure that students:
- learn to listen to, read, view, speak, write, create and reflect on increasingly complex and sophisticated spoken, written and multimodal texts across a growing range of contexts with accuracy, fluency and purpose;
- appreciate, enjoy and use the English language in all its variations and develop a sense of its richness and power to evoke feelings, convey information, form ideas, facilitate interaction with others, entertain, persuade and argue;
- understand how Standard Australian English works in its spoken and written forms and in combination with non-linguistic forms of communication to create meaning;
- develop interest and skills in inquiring into the aesthetic aspects of texts, and develop an informed appreciation of literature.
The Victorian Curriculum F-10: English is organised by language modes and strands.
In English, students progress along a curriculum continuum that provides the first achievement standard at Foundation and then at Levels 1 to 10. A 'Towards Foundation Levels A to D' curriculum is provided for students with disabilities or additional learning needs in this curriculum area.
The Authority is leading an initiative, the Digital Assessment Library (DAL), to develop and deliver new formative assessment tools to be housed on the Authority’s online digital assessment platform. The DAL will assist teachers in assessing student progress by providing tools comprised of validated, calibrated items aligned to the Victorian Curriculum F-10. The DAL will be made freely available to all schools in Victoria and will provide assessment tools across a number of key learning areas, including English.
The VCAA is seeking a supplier to develop new online English assessment items for use in the DAL.
The Authority requires a Supplier to develop new formative assessment items aligned with the Victorian Curriculum F-10: English. The assessment items will be developed according to Authority specifications on the Authority’s online digital assessment platform.
