The SCU Project works comprise of:

• upgrades along the Shepparton rail corridor, primarily between Seymour and Shepparton, to allow modern VLocity trains to travel to and from Shepparton for the first time, as well as giving passengers more reliable services.
• increasing the resilience, and supporting the reliability, of V/Line services will improve the connectivity between Melbourne, other large regional centers and dispersed regional communities.
• better connectivity to and from the Shepparton region, achieved by improved reliability and increased frequency of rail services, will improve the region as a place to live, work and visit by allowing new and existing residents to capitalise on economic opportunities.

Infrastructure upgrades that will be delivered as part of the SCU include:

• extension of crossing loop at Murchison East
• platform extensions at Nagambie, Murchison East and Mooroopna
• upgrade of public and occupation level crossings
• provision of a new stabling facility for VLocity rolling stock
• signalling, communications and Train Control System upgrades associated with the above works.
