Overview of the project

Proposed Development & Land-Use
The New Norcia Deep Space Ground Station is a private facility, owned by the European Space Agency, and currently operated under contractual terms by CSIRO Astronomy and Space Science. The facility is located on a 40 ha site, hosting a Deep Space Antenna (dish of 35m diameter), ancillary support buildings and workshops, and the Operations & Administration Building. This antenna is designed for communicating with satellites millions of kilometres away in the deep space of our solar system. The ground station provides support to spacecraft missions such as Mars Express, Bepi-Colombo and Gaia.

It is planned to erect a calibration antenna required for the Biomass mission foreseen to be launched in the near future, at the same site. The overall site design, dimensions of foundations, building design, structural analysis of the building design, sizing of air condition system, design of the electrical installation, etc. is currently developed and will be an input to this tender.

The intended tender will cover the implementation of the related infrastructure consisting of a technical building of approximately 170 m3 cubic contents hosting the calibration antenna with a dedicated redundant air condition system and foundations for various masts. In will include furthermore the cable ducts and pits between the building and the mast foundations, but also the electrical installation of the building and the routing of signal and power cables between the various installations. The installation of approximately 110 m non-metallic security fences with related gates will also be part of this tender.

The procurement and installation of the calibration antenna itself is not part of this tender.
