Temperate pasture legumes have been embraced by producers because of their nutrition value for livestock and their ability to add nitrogen to the soil. It is because of this demand, that the certified pasture seeds industry is central to the productivity of the agricultural sector. Specifically, the certified temperate pasture seed industry contributes to the productivity of pasture-based livestock industries including beef, sheep and dairy. While sown pastures provide break crop benefits for the grains industry and temperate pastures provide cut fodder for the dairy and equine industries together with export fodder sales. With this in mind, enhancing the productivity and profitability of the pasture seeds industry, through research, development and extension (RD&E), plays a pivotal role in the success of Australian agriculture.
