Tender Description

Palladium is a global leader in the design, development and delivery of Positive Impact - the intentional creation of enduring social and economic value. We work with foundations, investors, governments, corporations, communities and civil society to formulate strategies and implement solutions that generate lasting social, environmental and financial benefits.

For the past 50 years, we have been making Positive Impact possible. With a team of more than 2,500 employees operating in 90 plus countries and a global network of more than 35,000 technical experts, Palladium has improved - and is committed to continuing to improve - economies, societies and most importantly, people's lives.

Palladium is a child-safe organisation, and screens applicants for suitability to work with children. We also provide equal employment to all participants and employees without regard to race, color, religion, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation, veteran or marital status.

About Market Development Facility (MDF):

Market Development Facility is an Australian Government funded multi-country initiative which promotes sustainable economic development, through higher incomes for women and men, in our partner countries.

We connect individuals, businesses, governments and NGOs with each other, and with markets at home and abroad. This enhances investment and coordination and allows partnerships to flourish, strengthening inclusive economic growth.

MDF is funded by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs (DFAT). It is implemented by Palladium in partnership with Swisscontact.

About the Role:

For MDF, communications is not only about informing various stakeholders and audiences, but also engaging them directly and influencing perceptions and (investment) decisions within the industry. There is also a strong focus on helping development professionals, within and beyond DFAT, learn lessons from MDF’s experience. Communications is part of a broader MDF Engagement, Influencing and Learning agenda. How MDF communications products are developed and deployed are aligned and influenced by this.

The Communications Director is a member of the Core Leadership Team (CLT) and is responsible for the quality and frequency of MDF’s external communications with a range of stakeholders and audiences via various formats, as well as implementation of the facility’s communications strategy. S/he heads the MDF communications team, made up of MDF country office-based Communications Specialists.

This role will be based in Canberra, Australia, or within any MDF country program office for the right applicant.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Under the guidance of the Team Leader, maintain delivery and implementation of the facility’s communications strategy
  • Ensure that all communications material including press releases, country narratives, technical notes and case studies are effective, of high quality, contain accurate information and meet DFAT guidelines and procedure
  • Provide technical communications leadership and quality assurance to Communications Specialists, including best practices in communications, engagement, influencing and messaging to specific target audiences, especially in the public sector. Where needed, edit these materials and tailor them to audiences needs
  • Proactively communicate lessons learned and MDF experiences in a simple and tailored fashion to all relevant DFAT stakeholders both in Canberra and at Posts
  • Manage and monitor the flow of communications emanating from each country and ensure relevant information is then captured, packaged and fed into facility-wide communications products
  • Maintain an attractive, fresh, interesting and responsive website and social media presence
  • Support the development of key facility-wide reporting deliverables and communication pieces; format and edit these to ensure the highest level of professional presentation
