Primary Health Tasmania seeks to commission a Lead Agency for the establishment and ongoing operation of a Launceston Head to Health Centre.

The Centre is one of eight sites initially funded under the 2019-20 Federal Budget. The Australian Government has since expanded funding for Head to Health centres by committing $487million in the 2021-22 Federal Budget under the National Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Plan.

The Centre will aim to improve access to mental health and related support services for Tasmanians in the Launceston area, connect care, and reduce demand on hospital emergency departments.

The intent of the Centre is to address key gaps in the current mental health system by:
- providing a highly visible and accessible entry point to services for people experiencing psychological distress, and a place where they can feel safe and welcomed
- offering initial assessment to match people to the services they need
- providing on the spot support, care and advice without needing referral, prior appointments or out of pocket cost. Every interaction should be with the intention of therapeutic benefit
- offering an episode of care model based on short to medium term multidisciplinary care, aimed at improving psychological wellbeing for people with moderate to high levels of mental health need, whose needs are not being met through other services.

Service delivery timeframe:
Funding available for this service is from October 2021 to June 2024.
