Prostate cancer (PC) is the second most common cancer in men worldwide. Whilst the survival rate is high, there is evidence that major treatment side effects (such as incontinence and sexual health problems) lead to poorer quality of life. Research indicates that there is significant variation in prostate cancer treatment quality, and acute care cannot assess or meet the full needs of men living with and beyond a diagnosis of prostate cancer. Additionally, there is a wide range of information across multiple sources which can be overwhelming and time-consuming for men and supporters of men with PC to navigate.

Testicular cancer (TC) is the most prevalent cancer (excluding skin) in young men. Whilst the survival rate is high, there is evidence that the diagnosis to early treatment phase can be a time of high distress for some men. Research indicates that one cause of distress can be the absence of easy to access, user-friendly and credible information, and peer-support specific to this phase with most support being focused on long-term survivors.

In response, Movember has designed, developed and launched two digital health products, to address these unmet needs of men with either prostate or testicular cancer. The two products collectively reside under the banner of True North Digital Health (TNDH) at Movember. To the end user, the prostate cancer product is known as True North Prostate Cancer, and the testicular cancer product is known as Nuts & Bolts (having just undergone a rebranding from True North Testicular Cancer).

Movember is seeking an evaluation partner to work with them from September 2021 to December 2022. The evaluation is aimed at determining program:

Fidelity - that intervention fidelity is maintained from the previous research/pilot phase into this real-world delivery phase (TNPC)
Reach – that the program reached the intended audience and met acquisition targets (# of users)
Effectiveness - that the program has met its aims and objectives and the short/medium term program outcomes have been achieved
Scalability - whether the program was suited to scaling to the markets selected and potentially to further markets
Sustainability - what the costs of continuing this program would be over the long term (five years, ten years)
Impact – that digital products are delivering long-term sustained change.
