Destination Sydney Surrounds South (DSSS), is one of six Destination Networks (DNs) funded by the NSW Government via Destination NSW (DNSW). DNs act as destination managers working with industry to deliver the NSW Government objective to double the Visitor Economy by 2020. The DSSS zone encompasses 6 local government areas (LGAs) being; Kiama, Shellharbour, Shoalhaven, Wingecarribee, Wollondilly, Wollongong. DSSS has had to delay one of our key projects, the FIT Self Drive Project, due to bushfires and COVID. The project originally commenced in 2019 where there was engagement with the DNSW PR team with $80,000 being spent to conduct international media visits, as well as research development. However, due to the bushfires and COVID this was not able to continue as planned. We have worked closely with DNSW to ensure we develop a project that aligns to the original intention of the project and delivers the best outcome for stakeholders. We have also consulted with both Destination Wollongong and Shoalhaven Tourism, two of our biggest players in the international tourism space in region. Lastly, we have engaged with the Destination Southern NSW team (the Destination Network to our south), who are very supportive of the project and are keen to assist by providing financial support, making this a cross DN project.
