Tender Description

Suburban Rail Loop will transform Victoria’s public transport system connecting our suburbs and creating opportunities in great places; $2.2 billion has been provided to kick start the project.

The 90-kilometre Suburban Rail Loop will link every major rail line from the Frankston line to the Werribee line, via the airport, better connecting Victorians to jobs, retail, education, health services and each other. It will ease congestion and take pressure off the existing transport network.

The project will generate a long pipeline of work and construction activity, creating up to 20,000 jobs during construction. As well as delivering significant transport benefits, Suburban Rail Loop provides an opportunity to plan the services, amenity and infrastructure we're going to need outside of the central business district for future generations.

Suburban Rail Loop will be delivered in stages over several decades, with an Initial and Early Works package of works commencing in 2022.

SRL East will connect our growing health, education, retail and employment precincts in Melbourne's south east and east between Cheltenham and Box Hill. The 26-kilometre SRL East corridor will be built as a twin-tunnel, standalone line to fully integrate into the existing public transport network. New underground stations will be built at Cheltenham, Clayton, Monash, Glen Waverley, Burwood and Box Hill.

As part of the Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) the Suburban Rail Loop Authority (SRLA) is undertaking a range of preparatory works (Initial Works and Early Works) prior to the commencement of the Stage One Main Works (Stage One Works). The preparatory works include connection of SRL to the Victorian electricity Network and ongoing operation of Onsite Substation Assets.

SRLA require the assistance of a professional services firm with extensive experience in procurement, delivery and implementation of technical solutions associated with power supply for rail networks. The service provider will assist SRLA to progress works associated with procuring the best value for money solution associated with the power works. In particular, this will require an understanding of the local electricity network, National Electricity Rules and regulatory environment, as well as how best to engage with the Network Service Providers and regulators in the electricity industry (e.g. AEMO, United Energy, Ausnet).

SRLA will release a tender for this engagement with full details on Friday 29 October 2021.
