Galen Catholic College is in the final stages of planning for its new performing arts centre and stadium extension development, with works set to start this year.

The stadium works will double the college’s existing facility to two full courts, providing learning spaces to support the school’s PE/health and outdoor education programs.

The extension will also include office space, as well as new student bathrooms, with an existing change room block between the resource centre and stadium to be demolished as part of the works.

Construction of the new performing arts centre, which will be located close to the school’s car park off Park Crescent, will create an on-site performance space to cater for Galen’s productions, as well as providing three flexible learning spaces, including a lecture theatre for students and staff.

With building plans well-advanced, tenders are expected to be received in February, and works are due to commence as soon as possible in the New Year.

The project should be completed in early 2023.
As well as adding to Galen’s learning facilities, the works are set to provide the Wangaratta community with additional sporting and community spaces.

The college is also inviting the community to be involved in the project, and will be offering locals the chance to ‘sponsor a chair’ in the new performing arts centre, with sponsors’ names to be etched on plaques attached to seats.
In the lead-up to these capital works projects starting next year, work has been under way in recent days on construction of new sheds, including one to cater for the school’s expanding Vocational Education and Training (VET) curriculum, in addition to maintenance sheds, an outdoor education storage shed, and a shed for a new bus which is due to arrive in 2022.
