Tender Description

Pressure management is a critical tool for Wellington Water Ltd in management of leakage and network bursts. Reducing pressure in an area of old or vulnerable pipes can result in an extension of asset life across the area, with significant savings in reactive burst repairs and renewals as well as a reduction in water loss. There are a number of Pressure Reducing Valves (PRVs) across water networks in the Wellington region.

Wellington Water Ltd (WWL) therefore wish to procure a universal PRV monitoring system, which will include installing pressure and valve position monitoring on existing PRVs. Existing site monitoring will be integrated or replaced so that all information comes back to one system. The goal is to have a sustainable system which can be largely maintained by WWL internally, with minimal ongoing costs and requiring little support from suppliers.

The system should deliver time-series pressure data back to Wellington Water’s data warehouse in a format that can be analysed by the end user. The system should also have the ability to transmit data on whether a valve is open or closed, and ideally also be flexible enough to deal with other data formats (flows, flood alarm, tamper alarm etc).

This is a prime opportunity to design and set up an IoT communications system which will be at the heart of Wellington Water’s drive to reduce water consumption across the region.
