Tender Description

About our team

The Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) is the high performance (HP) arm of the Australian Sports Commission (ASC). We partner with National Sporting Organisations (NSO) and the National Institute Network (NIN) to lead and enable a united High Performance (HP) system that supports Australian athletes to achieve podium success.

Providers to the Network

We are looking for experienced mental health providers who are psychologists, psychiatrists, eating disorder dieticians, or social workers in private practice to join a dedicated network of providers to athletes and other persons referred by the AIS. We are looking for people to provide services now, and we also want to identify providers that we may need in the future as service demand continues to increase. As a member of this dedicated network of providers, you will prioritise athlete mental health through an athlete-centric support model.

You will be responsible for:

  • Providing your service from your private practice
  • Developing trusting relationships with the person in need
  • Helping to identify the presenting problem and psychological history of the person
  • Develop a therapeutic relationship with the person
  • Identify and implement a treatment plan as appropriate
  • Providing timely and professional support and guidance
  • Providing appropriate records of support and hours to the AIS.

About You / Your Organisation

You will be an experienced Mental Health provider and have a passion for helping people live their best lives. You will be providing your private practice service from one of the major centres in Australia (Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane/ Gold Coast, Perth, Canberra, Adelaide, Darwin, Hobart/ Launceston).

We are looking for experts in Mental Health who can create a safe environment for our athletes and support staff to engage in genuine, authentic, and real conversation.

We are keen to hear from professionals with demonstrated work experience and working knowledge in one or more of the following areas:

  • LGBTIQA+
  • Disability
  • Indigenous background (you will have an understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures in contemporary Australia).
  • Pasifika background
  • Pain Management
  • Trauma
  • Addictions

You will be required to provide evidence of:

  • Psychologists or psychiatrists must be registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA);
  • Dieticians must be eligible for full membership of the Dietitians Association of Australia; and
  • Social Workers must be eligible for full membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers.

This is a unique opportunity to work with and support Australia’s elite athletes and support staff through their professional careers and life challenges.
