A portfolio of policy measures is required to drive sustained market transformation and to establish NSW as a leader in climate technology research, development and commercialisation. Therefore, the NSW Government is exploring mechanisms for a CTI innovative investment workstream to complement the grant-based workstream (described further below).
Further quantitative analysis is required for this option and other options identified below in the ‘Scope’ section.
Objectives
The objectives of the innovative investment workstream are to:
• Build climate technology investment capability in the early-stage investor community
• Establish NSW as a leader in climate technology by supporting the broader ecosystem
• Leverage the NSW Government’s investment with funding from the private sector
• Reduce the identified funding gap for NSW-based climate technology early-stage start-ups.
The innovative investment workstream will support climate technology start-ups to pilot their technologies, advance in the commercial readiness index and unlock additional funding opportunities in later stages. It is also important that the mechanisms chosen for this workstream align and are systems focused to unlock economies of scale with the other workstreams in operation across CTI, the Net Zero Industry and Innovation Program and the broader NSW Government’s Net Zero Plan
