Tender Description
Brisbane North PHN is inviting tenders from eligible organisations to deliver the intergenerational program to reduce social isolation and loneliness of older people in the Brisbane North PHN region incorporating a range of activities that have the potential to improve the health and wellbeing of older people, commencing between February and April 2023.
Intergenerational programs are relatively new in Australia and research on implementing programs is still emerging. To maximise outcomes for participants, the PHN is partnering with a consultant who has expertise in this field and who can provide advice and support to the PHN and the commissioned service provider.
An intergenerational program provides an opportunity to directly address social isolation and loneliness as older people form connections with their peers and younger people. It is also an opportunity for services providers to provide a program that designs activities to address other aspects of healthy ageing and holistically address health and wellbeing. Programs can include physical activity to reduce risk of frailty and falls, incorporate mentally stimulating activities that consider cognition, memory and learning, and provide good nutrition through opportunities for shared meals, which promotes better eating amongst older people.
Brisbane North PHN intends to procure an intergenerational activity service/s with the aim of:
- Decreasing isolation and loneliness
- Increasing physical activity
- Increasing mental stimulation and reducing risk or progression of dementia
- Reducing health risks associated with loneliness and isolation
- Improving mental health and wellbeing
- Keeping older people living in their homes
- Reducing GP visits and hospital admissions.
All required documentation is attached to this tender notice.
