Tender Description

The Tasmanian Smart Seafood Partnership (TSSP) is a partnership project between NRM South and the Tasmanian Seafood Industry Council (TSIC) which aims to improve the sustainability of processes and practices in the seafood industry to achieve positive outcomes for marine biodiversity in Tasmanian waters. To achieve this, the project creates links between education, training, research, and restoration within the seafood industry.

The TSSP project supports the delivery of the state-wide Oyster Sensor Network (OSN) which remotely monitors temperature, depth, and conductivity, and reports data to a centralised data portal and dashboard (ShellPOINT). The OSN provides valuable information to marine farmers and the seafood industry with potential applications in decision making relating to growth, spawning, animal, and public health risk. The OSN is managed by Oysters Tasmania, the peak body for shellfish farming in Tasmania.

The TSSP will link the OSN data resource and education for students in schools around Tasmania through the development of digital education resources. It is intended that classes access data to investigate and understand more about Tasmania's shellfish industry, their local environment and how data is used in decision making.

NRM South seeks to engage a suitably qualified education professional to design and deliver education resources which explain how to access and use the OSN ShellPOINT data portal, including how to integrate data into classroom activities. It is anticipated that resources should achieve the following learning outcomes:

  • Environmental monitoring is important for managing primary production and natural resources.
  • Real-world environmental data is used for decision making.
  • Environmental data is used to maximise production and sustainability within marine farming.
  • A variety of technologies are used to measure the environment.
Education resources might include (and are not limited to): production of short videos or slide decks explaining how to use the ShellPOINT data portal; written case studies for data application (digital downloads) and links to the Australian Curriculum. The successful consultant will present their ideas in written response to this Request for Quote (see Form of Response).

Lodgement can be made by email to jhemer@nrmsouth.org.au.
