Māori Electoral Option – Campaign Awareness
Tender ID: 515163
Tender Details
Tender Description
The Electoral (Māori Electoral Option) Legislation Act 2022 introduces changes which will provide more opportunity for Māori voters to change between the general and Māori electoral rolls from 31 March 2023.
The Electoral Commission will contract regionally-based Māori organisations to raise awareness of the Māori Electoral Option in their communities, to complement the campaign activities delivered by the Commission’s community engagement teams.
The Commission is seeking registrations of interest (ROI) from organisations who wish to be considered to deliver the awareness campaign for the Māori Electoral Option in any the following regions:
1. Far North/Kaitaia
2. East Cape
3. Central Plateau/Rangitikei
4. Whanganui and the river/West Coast
5. Nelson/Marlborough/Kaikoura
6. Dunedin/Southland
7. Murupara/Kaingaroa Area
The Electoral Commission is looking for community-based organisations with deep local networks, to deliver MEO community engagement activities in their communities and to complement the campaign activities delivered by the Commission’s community engagement teams. The engagement will be delivered face-to-face and must be delivered neutrally without pushing any political views or influencing anyone as to which of the Electoral rolls they should enrol on. These are two critical principles of the campaign.
These contracted organisations will promote the Māori Electoral Option messages to all eligible Māori voters in their area.
The overarching objectives of the project are:
• To inform Māori about the Māori Electoral Option, the choice it presents and the steps to take to change rolls if desired.
• To engage with electors of Māori descent who are not enrolled, providing an opportunity for them to enrol for the first time and exercise their choice
