GOTAFE is pursuing the detailed design of a replacement fire protection system, for its William Orr Campus in Shepparton. The campus currently provides for agricultural, horticultural, automotive, building, and plumbing studies. The site has evolved over a number of years, with various building developments occurring as necessary, to suit course requirements. However, with upcoming changes at other campuses, the William Orr Campus will become home to only agriculture and horticulture studies. In conjunction with this, a long term plan is being developed for a significant capital investment for a new, custom designed and built education facility, which will replace the current disjointed buildings and sheds.

The Campus contains ageing fire system infrastructure consisting of an electric pump set, pump shed, and water supply pond, along with associated hydrants and hose reels located across the site. There is a need to audit the current fire system, to identify current deficiencies, and conduct a gap analysis on required changes to ensure compliance with current codes and standards.

It is expected that a new self-contained pump set, along with associated control system, supply tanks, and hydrants will need to be designed. It is unclear how – if at all – it is best to cater for the current development of the site, and also to allow for the future upgrade plans.
