Service Requirement
Expressive therapists use visual art-making, drama, dance and movement to
improve physical, mental and emotional well-being. They work with individuals
or groups using arts processes such as painting to create meaning, rather than
focussing on product. It has been evidentially proved that this type of therapy
can be helpful for people who cannot verbalise their feelings due to
developmental, cognitive, or other conditions.
Art / Play / Music therapy is a form of psychotherapy that is used to improve
and enhance the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being of
participants. This form of therapy is an important part of comprehensive
treatment programmes which allows individuals to express themselves, let off
steam and be creative. WNSW PHN want to support people to explore new ways to
relieve stress and cope with difficult emotions. Our programme will be designed
to address service gaps in particular geographical areas and population groups
and is designed to complement already existing services.
Importantly, we will be attempting to select service providers who have the
necessary qualifications and experience to provide the required services.
We are looking for both art/ play and/or music therapists to provide either 1)
regular individualised sessions or 2) regular group sessions to the following
vulnerable populations;
1) New and Expecting mothers
The aim is to utilise this therapeutic approach to alleviate both anxiety and
depression surrounding the three phases of childbirth for women. Art / Play
and/or Music therapy directives can be used to alleviate stress and help
mothers process a new stage of life, while postnatally helping to connect with
their new baby.
2) Indigenous Specific
WNSW PHN is wanting to recruit specialised therapist art / play / music
therapist who will engage clients (both children and adults) in creative
therapies to address their trauma, using expressive arts therapy as a way of
addressing trauma experienced by Indigenous peoples and their communities.
3) People assessed with addiction.
We are seeking to recruit therapist art / play / music therapist who will
engage clients with addictions. These innovative expressive therapies aid
people to engage in a model that is creative, supportive to process emotions
and enhance their recovery.
