With the construction of
the By-pass 2km to the west of Parkes, Parkes Shire Council
("Council") considers it timely to invite Quotations from suitably
skilled Consultants to work with Council for redevelopment options for Spicer
Caravan Park.
The Spicer Caravan Park has 75 camping sites, 13 cabins and two "permanent
residents" who live at the Caravan Park. Parkes Shire Council leases the
management and operation of the Caravan Park to Belgravia Leisure.
Spicer Caravan Park is situated away from highway and major road corridors. It
is outside of the Central Business District with limited public transport
opportunities.
Tourism and visitor markets are growing markets for Parkes, with visitors
attracted to town events, The Dish, recreational activities (mainly structured
sports), nearby National Parks and to catch up with friends and family.
Situated almost halfway in terms of trip time (8 hours and 11.5 hours
respectively) on the Melbourne-Brisbane corridor, Parkes has developed a strong
role as a mid-journey service centre serving the demands of motorists
travelling on the Newell Highway.
As a result, a proportion of the jobs in the town have been created by the
highway (directly or indirectly), and many businesses (especially the service
stations, eateries and accommodation establishments) exist because of, or
depend in significant measure on, expenditures made by motorists stopping for
services or staying overnight in the town to break their trip.
