LIV Aston is an exciting new build to Rent (BTR) offering by Mirvac located at 7 Siddeley Street, Docklands.
Mirvac acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the land on which the proposed development will be built upon and are seeking to pay our respect through the incorporation of an Indigenous artwork in the form of public mural on the building façade. This would also include a plaque describing the artwork and recognising the artist.
The artist for the mural will be sourced in conjunction with Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung Cultural Heritage Corporation. Preference will be given to a Victorian First Nations artist but all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists are encouraged to apply.
The mural is seeking to:
– Celebrate the rich Indigenous history of the precinct within which the project is located within
– Connection to this specific place in Melbourne
– Promote education and discussion about local Indigenous cultural heritage
– Compliment the architectural language of the building façade and contribute to the ground plane activation
– Contribute to the identity of community for LIV Aston, fostering community pride, and a sense of belonging, and enhancing the quality of life for its residents and visitors.
– Contribute to an emerging sense of identity and home for the residents that will call this everchanging area home
– Provide professional opportunities for local and upcoming Indigenous artists
A total budget of $50,000 + GST will be provided towards the artwork including installation.
The successful artist will include a response to the selection criteria through the EOI application:
– Ability to collaborate with Mirvac, Fender Katsalidis, Hecker Guthrie, Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung Cultural Heritage Corporation and any other key stakeholders
– Ability to interpret the building’s architectural language and create a mural that compliments the building design
– Ability to create an artwork that pays celebrates Wurundjeri history connected to the project location and the broader precinct it is situated within
– Ability to coordinate with Mirvac’s construction team and follow all onsite HSE requirements when executing the artwork
– Ability to build capacity of young artists in the process of responding to and delivering on an artist brief
– Demonstrated experience in similar sized projects
