This Preliminary Engineering consultancy is associated with the Wollombi Rd Upgrade Project which runs from Abbotsford Street in the south-west to Vincent Street in the north-east. Cessnock City Council owns and maintains this part of the road network. Currently the road is two lanes wide one in each direction, with on-road bicycle lanes on each side.

The upgrade’s primary objective is to alleviate current and forecast traffic congestion by increasing the travel lanes to four lanes with two in each direction. This means the cycleway will have to be relocated off-road. Various intersections and pedestrian crossings are also to be upgrade to signals due to the change.

Presently the project is at the Concept stage of design, which only has considered the desired future traffic flow configurations based on prior traffic flow survey data. Concept schematics have been drafted on satellite imagery only. No consideration for field levels or precise lane widths have been taken into consideration at this the first stage of design.

This package of Preliminary Engineering will advance the project to the next level of design resolution, which will also collect various field input data such as topographic, geotechnical, services location, asset condition, and the like. Preliminary Engineering will be prepared to a level suitable for issuance of a Lump Sum Tender for EPC Design and Construction of the Project.

The project development is to be staged as follows;

Stage 1 – Wollombi Rd from Abbotsford Street to West Avenue

Stage 2 - Wollombi Rd from West Avenue to Vincent Street
