The Save The Snowy Rail Bridge Inc is seeking quotations from appropriately qualified contractors for the construction-restoration of the Snowy River Rail Bridge Structure including, supply and installation of a shared pathway, construction of heritage retained display sections and viewing platforms on the refurbished bridge at Orbost, Victoria.
- The restoration works will consist of repair or replacement of the deck supports, beams and decking including re-establishment of any affected bridge foundations. The works will be conducted at the existing rail bridge site located adjacent to the Princes Highway at Orbost.
- The restored bridge structure and decking will support a new shared pedestrian and cyclist pathway incorporating two heritage display sections, two viewing platforms (with seating) to cater for all age ranges and levels of disability. The desire is for the completed installation to be family friendly and support positive social interaction.
- The desired project outcome is to provide a new shared pedestrian and cyclist pathway for all ages and levels of disability to enjoy. A space to play, teach and learn, through active recreation and social inclusion. A heritage restoration designed with the community, for the community.
- Timeframe is that the construction works, manufacture and installation being completed by the end of March 2024.
The Requirement
GENERAL: This specification outlines requirements for the restoration of the existing rail bridge structure to support a new shared pedestrian and cyclist pathway incorporating two viewing platforms with seating to cater for all age ranges and levels of disability and two heritage retained display sections also to be family friendly and support positive social interaction.
The Site
LOCATION: The works are located 3.5 km south of township of Orbost and direct access off the Buchan - Orbost Rd East and Burn Rd West. Refer Figure 2.
- The project spans a large open floodplain and will provide direct connectivity of the East Gippsland Rail Trail to the town’s main business area.
- Access to the project is via private property through a working dairy farm. Maintaining good communications with the landowner is imperative to a successful outcome of the project. Consideration to maintaining farming stock movement schedules throughout the duration of project must be considered in preparation of this tender.
