AEMO is seeking expressions of interest to establish a panel of persons who AEMO can seek to appoint as an Independent Expert from time to time.

This Request for Expressions of Interest (Request for EOI) seeks responses from suitably qualified persons who wish to become members of the Independent Expert Panel.

If appointed as an Independent Expert, that person will be expected to deliver the Services listed in Section C of the Request for EOI document.

The last Independent Expert Panel Expressions of Interest round was conducted in 2017. In this new round, some changes have been made to the terms and conditions for Independent Experts and the services they can provide. In addition, the process for engaging an Independent Expert has been simplified.

To apply, upload a PDF including the information set out in section D of the Request for EOI document, including a signed conflict of interest declaration and statement of compliance. No further information is required. The closing date for submissions is 4 August 2023.

After application, AEMO will evaluate the responses of the candidates to create a shortlist. AEMO’s assessment of Responses may include, but is not limited to, an evaluation of the following:

• Tertiary or post-graduate qualifications in Economics, Engineering, Law or other relevant degrees.

• Background in energy and regulated industries with extensive experience in energy markets, particularly the National Electricity Market (NEM).

• Previous experience as an Independent Expert or involvement in regulatory or arbitration panels.

AEMO will advise of the outcomes of this evaluation by 1 September 2023. A Response will not be taken to be unsuccessful until the Recipient is formally notified by AEMO. Interested shortlisted applicants will need to sign the Independent Expert Agreement and the Confidentiality Deed (attachment 5 of the Independent Expert Agreement) and return it to AEMO.
