Tender Details
Tender Description
On 25 February 2023 the Queensland Government announced support for the introduction of drug checking services, also known as pill testing, in Queensland, including through state-funded implementation. This is part of the Queensland Government’s commitment to reducing the risks and harms associated with illicit drug use and supports a key priority of the Queensland whole-of-government alcohol and other drugs, Achieving balance, to reduce alcohol and drug-related harm and consider additional intervention strategies.
Drug checking is a voluntary service that provides a tailored harm reduction intervention combined with results from chemical analysis of substances for people who are intending to consume the substance/s.
The Department is seeking offers from non-government providers with demonstrated experience delivering alcohol and other drug harm reduction services and capability to establish and deliver drug checking services in line with specifications and requirements under this Invitation to Offer. This includes approval under the Medicines and Poisons Act 2019, engagement with local agencies including the Department of Health and the Queensland Police Service, as well as other expectations set out in the Requirements for Drug Checking Services in Queensland (attached).
