Expression of Interest (EOI) - Removal of Bromfield St Weir
Tender ID: 537100
Tender Details
Tender Description
This is an Expression of Interest for the demolition of the Bromfield Street Weir Warrnambool.
The Bromfield St Weir is a significant structure that impedes the natural flow of the Merri River and affects fish passage accessibility. The Glenelg Hopkins CMA is committed to restoring the eco-hydrological connection in the Merri River estuary and enhancing fish passage. The Bromfield St weir on the Merri River was constructed in 1907 as part of the Merri scheme to supply town water to Warrnambool. This scheme was decommissioned in 1939 and the structure was briefly used as a gauging site before becoming redundant.
A fishway was constructed in 1998 but has proven ineffective. A 2007 survey of fish diversity and distribution in the Merri River found the steep gradient of the fishway impassable for many fish species. This limits access to the entire upstream waterway.
The selected contractor will be responsible for the complete removal of the Bromfield St Weir and associated works (Refer to Appendix 1 – Design Drawings), adhering to all relevant regulatory requirements and environmental considerations. The removal must be executed with minimal disruption to the surrounding environment and ensure the safety of workers and stakeholders.
