The Town of Cambridge has an Audit and Risk Committee which oversees functions as prescribed by the Local Government Act 1995 and Local Government (Audit) Regulations 1996.
The Audit Committee comprises seven members, made up of five Elected Members and two independent community members. In addition to two independent community members, council resolved at the meeting held on 12 October 2021 that Audit and Risk Committee is to be chaired by one of the two independent community members. External members are appointed for a period of two years, in line with the terms of office for Council.
Council is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified and/or experienced persons, for an appointment as an Independent Community Member on the Town's Audit and Risk Committee, until October 2025.
Interested persons should possess qualifications and/or experience in financial management and internal ‘control, business management, governance or similar. The Committee meets four times per year and the meetings are approximately 1-2 hours duration.
No meeting fee is payable, as this is not currently permitted by the Local Government Act 1995, however reimbursement of reasonable expenses is made. (e.g., travel or childcare). Amendments are being made to the Local Government Act 1995 to allow for attendance payments to Committee Members in the future, however timing of the change is not yet confirmed.
