Tender Description
Expressions of Interest from artists at all career stages are now open for Lorne Sculpture Biennale 2024.
Lorne Sculpture Exhibition Inc. invites Expressions of Interest from artists at all career stages for Lorne Sculpture Biennale 2024. The Lorne Sculpture Biennale (LSB) is a nationally significant exhibition event showcasing site-responsive art practice in an outdoor context on Gadubanud Country in Victoria’s southwest.
Curated by Simon Lawrie, LSB 2024 will feature sixteen site-specific commissions exploring how contemporary art can respond to, articulate, and augment our experience of place. LSB 2024’s curatorial theme stems from the Lorne region’s iconic geology - its stratified ocean cliffs serve as an analogy for the fact that one place is many places, layered both physically and experientially through time, culture, and the subjectivity of humans and other forms of life.
From 2 - 30 November 2024, the outdoor exhibition will present sculpture and spatial installation more broadly, encompassing sonic art, architectural environments, ephemeral installations, and landscape interventions, all uniquely capable of enabling complex and affective experiences of place. Themes to be explored include geology and ecology, Australia’s First Peoples and early settlement, among various objective (geographic, scientific, material) and subjective (social, cultural, perceptual) aspects of each site and their interactions.
Artists may propose works in progress or concepts.
