Tender Description
The TAC may require a person who was injured, as a result of a transport accident and makes a claim for, or receives compensation, to submit for examination by one or more medical service providers nominated by the TAC under section 71 of the Transport Accident Act 1986 (TA Act).
The TAC has established a panel of Independent Medical Examiners and Independent Impairment Assessors. Currently the TAC is seeking to fill gaps in speciality areas within the panel.
The role of an Independent Medical Examiner or Independent Impairment Assessor is to undertake an independent medical examination and provide a report based on their professional opinion and expertise to assist the TAC in making relevant decisions in accordance with the TA Act.
The current panel will expire on 30 June 2024, with an option to extend the panel for a further 12 months.
The TAC invites submissions of Expressions of Interest (EOI) from suitable individual medical service providers to become Independent Medical Examiners and/or Independent Impairment Assessors for the TAC.

Who We are Looking For
The TAC is interested in applicants who:
- Work in the speciality areas listed below (see Services)
- Hold a current registration with the relevant professional registration board and abide by all relevant AHPRA Standards
- Have a minimum of 5 years full time (or equivalent) direct clinical care experience as a practitioner in their chosen discipline
- Is currently, or has been engaged for a minimum of 8 hours active direct clinical care each week over a 12 month period within the past 3 years
- If retired from active clinical practice, maintains currency of clinical knowledge through equivalent ongoing academic studies within their chosen discipline
- Is a member of an association which provides professional indemnity insurance cover or holds current and enforceable professional indemnity insurance with cover
Interested applications must also note that to become an 'accredited' impairment assessor, an examiner must have successfully completed the relevant modules of the Victorian Ministerially Approved Training Course (MA TC) in the Application of the 4th Edition of the AMA Guides.

EOI Conditions
Interested applicants must note the following:
- Do not submit your application via the Buying for Victoria website. You must submit your Expression of Interest via email medical_examiners@tac.vic.gov.au
- EOI Applicants do not need to submit evidence in their registration. Successful applicants to this EOI will be requested to complete a questionnaire for evaluation by the TAC in the next stage of the process.

The TAC is a government–owned enterprise, established under the Transport Accident Act 1986 (Vic) to reduce the social and financial cost of transport accident injuries to the Victorian community.
We pay for treatment and support services for people injured in transport accidents, promote road safety in Victoria and improve the state’s trauma system.
Independent Medical Examiners and Independent Impairment Assessors play a vital role in assisting the TAC to fulfil its role of supporting our injured clients and delivering benefits in a timely manner.
