Tender Description
The Waste and Sustainable Materials Strategy 2041 - Stage 1- 2021-2027 (WaSM) outlines the actions that will be taken over five years to transition towards a circular economy, reduce emissions and mitigate climate change impacts. To support these transitions, the WaSM sets a target for the state to have an 80% average recovery rate from all waste streams by 2030 (80% target). The purpose of this tender, and the work that will be undertaken, is to model the flows of key materials by region and overall, for NSW and create a database and dashboard that can be updated by the EPA.
Objectives
The objective of this work is to create a database and dashboard that can be updated annually by the EPA to support strategic investment decisions based on the flows of material around NSW.
To meet the 80% target, all three levels of government (local, state and federal) and industry need to invest in recovery and recycling infrastructure. Up to date, publicly available data region by region material flows and infrastructure capacity will help to empower the resource recovery sector to strategically plan for future infrastructure, and leverage opportunities to improve the recovery rate.
The findings of this work will sit alongside a NSW Waste Infrastructure Plan, to provide information that attracts investment in high-priority recovery infrastructure in NSW. The information presented in the dashboard will support other work including commodity market reports.
