The Queensland Government, through Queensland Health Capital Division (HCD) have appointed John Holland Queensland Pty Ltd (John Holland) under a Managing Contract - Design and Construction Management, to perform the design, construction, commissioning, and completion of the Princess Alexandra Hospital Expansion, whereby John Holland will be performing design development activities until approximately mid 2024 before submitting a final offer to HCD to commence the Construction Works.

The Princess Alexandra Hospital Expansion will deliver increased capacity via a five-storey vertical expansion constructed on top of the East Wing building above the existing Emergency Department on Level 1 and Cancer Services on the Ground Floor.

The project consists of:

  • 5-level (4 occupied levels and 1 plant level) vertical expansion of the East Wing building
  • 249 additional beds
  • 219 inpatient beds (medical / surgical) across 3 levels (levels 2, 4, 5). Each level will include 3 IPU's and associated clinical and non-clinical support areas and family areas
  • 30 bed ICU/HDU area (Level 3) and a refurbished area in the R-wing for associated ICU offices
  • Modifications to the Cardiac Catheter Laboratory (CCL)
  • Expansion of the cancer outpatient and treatment area and rationalization to the ground floor
  • Bed store refurbishment

EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST OPPORTUNITIES

All trade subcontractors that express interest for the project's trade packages will be assessed against selection criteria and forwarded to John Holland for their consideration. The overall responsibility for the award of all trade packages rests solely with John Holland.

All trade subcontractors are to note that a condition precedent for all trade packages over a value of one million dollars are required to be Prequalified Subcontractors under the Queensland Government Prequalification Scheme (PQC). Visit:

Contractors that have previously expressed interest on indicative trade packages against this project, prior to selection of John Holland as managing contractor, are requested to review their registration and re-submit an EOI for the relevant trade package/s which have recently been updated on the ICN Gateway. Contractors are to ensure that they meet John Holland's selection criteria provided on the ICN Gateway for each trade package.
