Tender Description
The Australian and South Australian governments are delivering the final and most complex section of the North-South Corridor.
The 10.5km T2D Project is the most significant infrastructure project ever undertaken in South Australia. It will complete the North-South Corridor, providing 78km of non-stop motorway between Gawler and Old Noarlunga.It will unlock Adelaide's traffic network, stimulate economic growth while sustaining liveability, and deliver long-term benefits for South Australians. It will ensure people, produce, and products arrive where they need to be sooner and safer, helping to lower costs for businesses and improve services for customers by providing:
- reduced travel times to key destinations, including the CBD and major gateways such as Port Adelaide and Adelaide Airport;
- a crucial route for heavy vehicles and commercial freight trips; and
- a continuous road link connecting Gawler in the north and Old Noarlunga in the south.
The T2D Project will deliver two sets of twin three-lane tunnels, lowered and ground-level motorways, and overpasses and underpasses at key intersections. When complete, more than 50 per cent of the T2D Project will be motorway tunnels. By moving thousands of vehicles into underground tunnels and bypassing 21 sets of traffic lights, the T2D Project will connect communities across Greater Adelaide.
The southern and northern sections of the T2D Project will include parallel tunnels with three lanes in each direction.
- The Southern Tunnels will run from Clovelly Park to Glandore; and
- The Northern Tunnels will run from Richmond to West Hindmarsh.
Main construction on the T2D Project is expected to begin in 2025.
The first tunnel boring machine (TBM), to be used to create the Southern Tunnels, is scheduled to start tunnelling in 2026.
Project completion is expected in 2031.
