Maraeweka Forest is a first rotation, radiata pine forest situated 25km* by road southwest of Oamaru within the Waitaki District. Located equidistant between PrimePort (Timaru) and Port Chalmers (Otago) at a cost-effective cart of less than 110km*, the forest benefits from proximity to export and domestic markets, a large commercial metal source and State Highway 1 some 13km* from the forest gate.
Entirely suited to ground-based harvesting methods, the forest has been professionally managed by Laurie Forestry under a predominately clearwood regime, with pruning and thinning to most of the forest throughout the rotation to produce a valuable tree crop.
Maraeweka Forest has existing registration within the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) under ‘stock change’ which could be transferred to the incoming purchaser upon the sale of the forest, providing potential benefits and opportunities in the context of forecast carbon sequestration and trading.
