The Opportunity

Healesville Sanctuary wishes to conceptualize and design a new Platypus Conservation Centre for the housing and viewing of platypus as one of our most popular visitor-driving, icon species. The Sanctuary has a long history of platypus care and welfare and was the very first zoo to breed platypus.

The facility will achieve the re-design and refurbishment of existing structure - World of Platypus for the public display of platypus including public display of platypus and other aquatic species and external to the building, breeding ponds. The project integrates all aspects of design including Architectural, Aquatic and Experience Design.

We are procuring a principal consultant to be engaged as the lead consultant, potentially forming a consortium with other specialist design disciplines required for the success of this project.

• Architect, Principal Designer
• Aquarium/Aquatics Designer
• Visitor Experience Designer
• Landscape Designer

An imperative for success is that the project will improve animal welfare as well as the visitor experience, balancing both aspects to achieve project success.
