WorkCover Queensland (WCQ) has been providing workers’ compensation insurance in Queensland for more than twenty years. With an inner-city office, WorkCover has 1170 employees who deliver a range of services across diverse, office-based roles and faces the challenge of a growing workforce, limited space at WorkCover Central, and hybrid work arrangements that require people to work a minimum of 5 in 10 days in the office. To investigate how WorkCover should respond to these challenges and create a flexible work environment that drives and supports desirable workplace behaviours, a prototype work environment was tested, and the findings are being implemented.

WorkCover is now transitioning to a desk sharing environment that incorporates personal lockers, the removal of under-desk drawers, personal wireless headsets, and a desk booking system. Considering the nature of the workforce and the organisational support services structure, there is a focus on self-service support systems that provide access to data to inform building and workforce management.

WorkCover has engaged an Architect to provide specifications and drawings for the installation of lockers and is now seeking to engage a supplier for the supply and install of the lockers and smart lock system for all personal lockers on the WCQ premises. The intended first phase is to provide Lockers and Smart Lock System on levels 9-18 (excluding 16), with the second phase retrofitting existing mechanical locks currently on levels 6, 7 and 8 with a Smart Lock System.

The scope of the potential Contract will cover the following requirements (see Part B – Contract Details – Schedule 1 Requirements for full details):

Supply and install of personal lockers and smart lock system (including retrofit of existing) to levels 6-18 of 280 Adelaide Street building.

The number of lockers installed or to be installed, by level, are:

• Level 6 – 82 lockers already installed
• Level 7 – 155 lockers already installed
• Level 8 – 96 lockers already installed
• Level 9-15 – 112 lockers per level to be installed
• Level 17 – 24 lockers to be installed
• Level 18 – 48 lockers to be installed
