Tender Description
Background
Council is seeking expressions of interest (EOI) from Aboriginal artists and designers looking to have their work integrated into signage, murals, yarning circle installations and other public art for the Coastal Headlands Walking Trail.
Artist brief
Artwork should represent dhurga culture and culturally significant stories of Eurobodalla and the Coastal Headlands Walking Trail, that runs from Batehaven to Mckenzies Beach.
Artwork should reflect the trail themes, with ties to local Aboriginal culture and stories. Trail themes include:
- Walking together - interconnectedness between land and sea. The sub-theme “Gadhu is Sea Country” focuses on sustainable living from the ocean, dhurga language and sea spirits.
- The dynamic edge - explores the changing stories of beaches, coves and bays due to the natural forces, and the significant geological aspects and unique rock formations around Denhams Beach.
- Taking care of natural places – conservation of marine life and the human role in addressing climate change, habitat preservation and fire management.
Important information
The Aboriginal artist/designer should be of Yuin Country and either currently living in Eurobodalla or accepted as having strong connections with its Aboriginal community. The final artwork(s) must reflect the artist brief outlined on this page.
- On engagement the artist will be briefed on trail themes and team-meeting schedules for guidance and feedback prior to final rendering of artwork.
- A signed licence agreement between the artist/designer and Council will outline the copyright parameters for the work.
- A once off payment of $5000 to the successful applicant(s) to create the unique artwork/design for use by Council, with 30% paid when the licence agreement is signed, and the remaining 70% when the final work is complete.
- The final artwork will be rendered by Council’s Graphic Designer as appropriate for final outputs - for example, on signs and/or public art applications. The artist will have the opportunity to review and approve all final outputs.
- The design/artwork is to be completed within an agreed timeframe: initial concept is developed by April 2024 and the final design/artwork by the end of June 2024.
