An exciting opportunity is available to be part of the Cognitive Futures team focused on building the cognitive computing capability that enables IP Australia to research, develop and embed smart systems that can learn and improve the way business is conducted.
At IP Australia you will play an important role in the Cognitive Futures team in a position that is pivotal to the ongoing digital transformation of the agency. As a Senior Cognitive Technical Lead, you will be critical to the ongoing research and development of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI) techniques such as machine learning (ML) and natural language processing (NLP) and automation to support the administration of IP rights within the agency.
The Senior Cognitive Technical lead provides Machine Learning technical advice to Cognitive Futures, Business Transformation and the agency on AI/ML matters. In their capacity as a technical lead they also carry out the following specific duties;
- Providing Machine Learning technical advice to the Innovation Section;
- Data query script development and running scripts;
- Preparing training data and testing data for machine learning algorithms;
- Training machine learning algorithms with prepared data sets;
- Working with internal and external machine learning researchers;
- Modeling data and data tables to run efficient data queries;
- Data pattern identification;
- Develop unit testing data queries and any developments;
- Adhere to tight delivery schedule and high standard;
- Undertaking Scrum Mater role as required; and
- Develop and maintain relationships in a critical team, including participation in scrum meetings, adoption of agile methodology and liaison with business areas.
- Drive end to end technical execution of projects, collaborating with business and technical project stakeholders.
IP Australia has three invited Sellers and will accept a further 7 Sellers who express interest. Please note the maximum number of Sellers will be capped at 10.
Preference will be given to candidates with Australian citizenship.

Working arrangements: IP Australia supports flexible working arrangements. In order to contribute to team cohesion and facilitate opportunities for knowledge sharing, ACT employees are expected to work 2-3 days on site if they are from ACT.
