Yarriambiack Shire Council is seeking a qualified contractor to undertake weed spraying across our nominated road reserves, channels and strategic fire break routes, as part of an annual plan.

Yarriambiack Shire Council undertakes the roadside spraying on approximately 738 kilometres of its road network annually to reduce the impact of weeds and to create strategic fire breaks. It is important that this activity be undertaken when the roadside vegetation is smaller in height. The timing of this work is critical to the success of the program and will be planned in conjunction with the successful contractor based on seasonal weather conditions.

Council routinely receives annual funding for the Roadside Weeds and Pest Program from the State Government, while it is anticipated funding for these projects will be ongoing, there is no guarantee on the annual quantity of the works to be performed under this contract.

The current annual budget for the works to be performed under this contract is $85,000 (excluding GST).

In addition, Council may also undertake additional weed spraying programs on road reserves and channels. This would be subject to landholder and Department of Environment Energy and Climate Action approvals. The additional works would be in addition to the annual strategic firebreak program.

Contractors will be required to have a Commercial Operators License, ACUP Permit and abide by safety standard procedures specified for the State of Victoria. The chemicals used are herbicides to target specific weed species as recommended by the Agricultural and Veterinary Chemical (Control of Use) Act 1992 (AVC Act).

The Contract will be awarded for an initial three (3) year period with an option, at Council’s sole discretion, to offer a further two x one-year extensions (up to a maximum contract term of five (5) years).
