As part of the 2023-24 Federal Budget, the Department of Health and Aged Care (DoHAC) released a grant opportunity to support primary health care services access for people from multicultural communities. The grant funding is intended to address service gaps in primary health care service arrangements, barriers to accessing services, and improve service integration.

The program's objectives are to:

Commission services to support primary health care access by people from multicultural backgrounds where there are limited or no services available in the local community through addressing service gaps in the region.

Identify and support services for people from multicultural backgrounds where it is demonstrated that there are challenges and barriers to accessing and navigating primary care services.

Promote coordination between services at a local level and support local service providers in having the skills and systems to provide effective care that integrates with a patient's usual primary care provider.
