ABOUT THE TENDERER
The University of Adelaide, established in 1874, has over 25,000 students and 3,500 staff and researchers. The University has a strong reputation internationally as a leading research and teaching institution.
ABOUT THE TENDER
The Animal Science program commenced at the Roseworthy Campus in 2004, to fill a key gap in livestock teaching. Since then, the School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences ("SAVS") have established the University's flagship Veterinary Science and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine programs. This was followed by the establishment of two additional programs including Animal Behaviour and Veterinary Technology. A key strength of the programs offered by SAVS is the hands-on training with animal livestock.
The existing Cattle Yard, which was established in the 1960s, has had a few minor upgrades but has now reached its end of life. The current facility includes nine cattle crushes which are insufficient for the size and number of classes currently being taught by SAVS. The previous addition of more crushes, as student numbers have increased, has also ultimately impacted functionality, including cattle flow and observation of correct cattle handling, and safety, as space between crushes has been drastically reduced.
The existing Sheep Yard also requires modifications to increase the covered area and to modify the existing pens, races, and fencing. These works will support teaching, by reducing time lost to weather, and will keep additional sheep dry and under cover during shearing.
