Tender Description

Far North Queensland Ports Corporation Limited, trading as Ports North (PN) is a government-owned Corporation established under the Government Owned Corporations Act 1993 (Qld) that develops and manages port facilities. PN operates the Ports of Cairns, Cape Flattery, Karumba, Mourilyan, Skardon River, Quintell Beach, Thursday Island, Burketown and Cooktown.

Ports North has been granted permission by the Department of Environment Science and Infrastructure to Deconstruct Whites Shed. Whites Shed is a Heritage listed sugar handling shed located opposite the Cairns Cruise Liner Terminal. The conditions for deconstruction requires the retention and public display of a portion of the Heritage Sugar bagging conveyor.

Ports North invites Tenders from suitably experienced contractors to bid for the Deconstruction works.

The Tender package includes staged portions of work including:

  • Clearing of trees and preparing the site
  • Demolition and deconstruction of the shed
  • Removal of intact portions (2x bays) of the Heritage conveyor and storage at a secure facility nearby
  • Clearing the site and removal of all steel, timber and concrete waste and back filling and grading the site to allow for proper drainage.

Due to Whites Shed’s proximity to the Cruise Terminal, planning around shipping schedule and working within the window of time available will be critical. Tenderers will need to ensure availability of heavy plant and equipment in advance of the deconstruction commencement. All works will be required to be completed in a safe and timely manner.

Video and still footage of the interior of the shed can be made available during site visit.
