As part of the 2023-24 Federal Budget, the Department of Health and Aged Care announced funding allocation through the Strengthening Medicare reforms to support multidisciplinary team models of care (MDT) in general practice. Funding allocated is for the commissioning of allied health services to support general practices in delivering primary care services.

Murray PHN is targeting this funding to areas where the health needs assessment has identified need and where there is limited access to allied health services to provide an MDT approach. In this instance, we have targeted the Strathbogie and Mitchell local government areas.

The intended outcomes of the program are to:

• enhance access to primary care services to the identified population
• support a sustainable allied health workforce model
• reduce the number of avoidable hospitalizations and emergency department presentations
• increase the level of patient reported outcomes and patient experience
• increase workforce satisfaction.
