Snow Monaro Regional Council has successfully secured funding from the Restart NSW Regional Growth Environment and Tourism Fund to commence construction of the long-awaited new shared walking and mountain bike trail around Lake Jindabyne. The 60kms of trail – comprising of 30km of new trail and re-construction of 30km of existing trail - will provide a new recreational asset that will support increased visitation and economic growth in the region. Work on the development planning phase are well advanced with delivery scheduled for mid to late 2024. This Package represents the first Package of works to be released for trail building design and construction with future packages anticipated for release mid 2024.

The trail will also link an existing network of short-tracks and day use areas around Lake Jindabyne to the 40km Thredbo Valley Track within Kosciuszko National Park. When complete this iconic trail will allow visitors to journey from Kosciuszko National Park from Creel Bay in the West, around the southern edge of Lake Jindabyne to the East, finishing amongst the granite boulders and sub-alpine terrain at Kalkite.
