Overview
The RATE Special Projects Grant is available to RATE sites remote and very remote Northern Territory communities. This grant, facilitated by the Aboriginal Educators team, on behalf of the Department of Education, Educational Leadership Culture and Care, offers financial support to assist Aboriginal Educators in their professional learning and development. The RATE Special Projects Grant aims to assist schools in piloting projects that improve educational outcomes for Aboriginal Educators in remote schools. Project objectives need to align with the one or more of the following goals of RATE which contribute to the NT Education Strategy 2021-2025, the NT Education Engagement Strategy 2022-2031 and the National Agreement on Closing the Gap:
- More local Aboriginal educators with an ongoing commitment to their communities, who are highly valued leaders because of their deep knowledge of local languages and context.
- Supported local Aboriginal educators who are positive, energetic, culturally responsive and skilled to motivate children and young people to engage in learning and experience success.
- Empowered local Aboriginal educators being role models for post-school transition and pathways.
- A high retention of Aboriginal educators providing continuity for student learning in schools that face high rates of teacher turnover.
- An increased Aboriginal educator workforce that better reflects the diversity of learners.
